Keystone Place at Wooster Heights

Danbury, CT

Keystone Place at Wooster Heights is a $26 million new construction project. A senior housing facility located in Danbury, CT, the project was 170,000 sq. ft. new construction that consists of 154,000 sq. ft. of living space and 16,000 sq. ft. lower level parking. Working closely with a wide variety of Government Agencies, including the Federal Aviation Administration, Rizzo Corporation coordinated the Civil Design Documents and our Mechanical and Electrical trades did a design built of their respective systems to fit into the plans created by the Owner’s Architect.

The property is located in the flight path of the Danbury Airport. As a result, this project also required uniquely extensive site work prior to the start of the construction of the actual structure. This location placed height limitations on the building structure and created an additional need to remove trees on and around the property. A below grade solution was developed to allow for maximizing the square footage of the property while adhering to the necessary height restrictions. As a result, a retaining wall was constructed at the rear and sides of the property. This wall exceeds 20 ft. in height in some places. Also, the removal of over 100,000 cubic yards of earth was necessary in order to accommodate this design.

This project also included a 900 sq. ft. Emergency Medical Services building that Rizzo Corporation donated to the City of Danbury. This building provides a necessary waiting space in between calls for the Danbury EMTs that service the West Side of town. Read more about this donation here.

Also included in this project was a road widening component as well as installation of new traffic signals on Wooster Heights to accommodate a new turn lane and adjacent businesses.

Additionally, a significant portion of this work was done under the unexpected COVID restrictions that were present during the majority of the 2020 calendar year.

The Keystone Facility features 55 independent living units. However, it also includes 22 memory care units and 63 assisted living units.

Additional amenities and features include a variety of dining options, including a full commercial kitchen, office space and conference rooms for the staff, a movie room, a pub room, a fitness center, a library, a salon, and laundry facilities.
