State of the Art Robotics at the NHRY’s Central Distribution Warehouse

Rizzo Corporation is currently the General Contractor on the New Haven Rail Yard’s Central Distribution Warehouse. Beginning in 2015 and wrapping up this year in 2017, the $21.9 Million project is a unique coordination effort between the MetroNorth and the CT Department of Transportation.

Currently in its final phase of construction, completion is anticipation in late 2017.

This project includes construction of a new central warehouse required for the overall New Haven Line to serve as the main distribution point for stores material for the storerooms contained within the individual shops, as well as for major components of the M-8 cars.

This 10-story, 11,000 sq. ft. warehouse utilizes a high density automatic storage and retrieval system (ASRS) located directly adjacent to the Component Change Out Shop. The state-of-the-art warehouse has space for 1800 separate pieces of replacement equipment to be stored and then fetched by robotic cranes.

The Metro North improvements are part of an overall $2.8 billion investment in transportation.
