DANBURY, CT

     WESTSIDE ACADEMY MIDDLE SCHOOL

ABOUT

Working closely with the Architect and City of Danbury, Rizzo Corporation entered into contract to renovate the existing 61,407 square foot, 52 year old school (formerly known as Mill Ridge Primary School) and construct a 7,116 square foot addition. This $13.5 million dollar project was the first phase of the conversion of an existing elementary school into a middle school. The entire school was updated and in line with new life safety and accessibility codes, and the layout was reconfigured with the addition of a new roof, new windows, new mechanical systems (including fire and HVAC), updated electric and data work, and a renovated gymnasium with new equipment.

The exterior was renovated to add a new student drop off area, a separate parking area, a new drainage system, updated utilities, new plantings, curbs, sidewalks, and paving. Rizzo Corporation as the General Contractor oversaw the work and assisted the City in the required paperwork to recoup the State funds to offset the costs of the job to the City. We coordinated the various trades and schedule the work to finish the job on budget in time to allow the City to perform Phase 2, fit up the school with new furniture and equipment in time for opening Fall of 2014.
