Danbury Apartment Complex Taking Place (NewsTimes)
DANBURY — Construction is moving forward at a record pace on a new apartment complex on South Street as a result of warmer weather and a lack of snow so far this winter.
“We’ve been really lucky with the weather so far,” said Steve DeMarco, owner of DeMarco Construction. “Usually the guys have to sit it out for a couple of months this time of year, but everyone has been really busy. After the last few years, everyone is really thankful to have the work.”
The Town Line Commons apartment complex, which sits next to the Bethel border, is a joint effort between DeMarco and Rizzo Construction, which acquired the property about five years ago after a landscaping yard on the site went out of business.
“Initially we had expected to put an industrial building on the property,” said Anthony Rizzo Jr. a principal with the family-run company. “But due to a lot of the recent residential development along that corridor, we decided that housing would be a better fit. Our family lives in this community and it’s important to us that whatever we develop fits with the character of the neighborhood.”
As most developers have noticed, Rizzo focused on apartment units because that is where the demand is in the market, he said. The location is also ideal given its proximity to the downtowns of Bethel and Danbury.
