Rizzo to Renovate/Repurpose 4 Downtown Danbury Buildings

Rizzo Corp. won a contract with the Connecticut Institute for Communities Inc., to renovate four older downtown Danbury buildings.

Two of the buildings, the former Boughton Street YMCA and a former plumbing showroom on Park Avenue, are now vacant. The other two, the Danbury War Memorial and the Bill Curtis Armory on West Street, are in use.

Rizzo will add classrooms to the Danbury War Memorial in Rogers Park. It will turn the former Boughton Street YMCA into a Boys and Girls club. It will renovate a former plumbing showroom on Park Avenue into an early childhood learning center. It will renovate the dilapidated Bill Curtis Armory on West Street.

The starting date and contract details have not been negotiated. No firm schedule has been established for construction.

CICI is now constructing a new headquarters, a health center and housing at the former Danbury Police headquarters at the corner of Main and Boughton streets. CICI operates out of Old Sherman Turnpike off Route 6 in Danbury and operates its community health center on North Street.
